By ANGELA HAHN/City of Brenham-Public Information Published: Tuesday, July 21, 2009 12:04 PM CDT Monday afternoon, the Brenham Fire Department lost one of its most beloved members. BFD Belle, the department’s fire dog, answered her last call.
“Our friend and fire station guardian BFD Belle passed away at 1:40 p.m. this afternoon,” said Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Alan Finke. “She had a snack and then went to sleep without any pain or suffering.
“Belle has been sick for some time and we’ve been watching her pretty closely. Belle has been a part of our family for so long and was a faithful member until the end.” When the fire department decided in 1996 to get a fire dog, it went with the traditional choice — a Dalmatian. To get the community into the spirit of things, a contest to name the puppy was held.
And so Brenham Fire Dog (BFD) Belle became the department’s first four-legged member.
“Over the years Belle has greeted and entertained every class of students that have visited the fire station. She knew all the basic tricks such as sit, stay and speak and, as all firefighters can, could also demonstrate stop, drop and roll. She was a valued member of our department and we’ll miss her.”
The department is planning to include a tribute to Belle at the Hook and Ladder Co. 1 Fire Museum.

To the Treasured Paws Family, |
Thank you so much for the wonderful Christmas goodies - our staff enjoyed them. We also want to thank you for your compassionate care of all of our deceased friends, especially our Droopy who was and is so special to us. Knowing he was treated with respect and love until the end gives us closure and peace. Have a blessed 2006. |

Just wanted to say "Thank you" for your services and quick professionalism. "Lukas" was my world and not just a dog. He really was my best friend. His loss will be hard for me to overcome, but I feel better acquiring your help. Thank you so much! |

Thank you so much for handling my dog Zoe's remains. I was very touched by the engraving of her name on her container. As a child our family always had a place in the garden for our pets, but now as an adult in a city I lack a yard, and I really didn't know what to do. My vet recommended your service, and I am very pleased with your work and will be sure to pass on a good word to others in the future. |
